BIRD PEST CONTROL

We have over 30 years experience of flying falcons and hawks at avian pest species such as pigeons, gulls, starlings etc. These birds often cause an environmental hazard at various sites and locations.

We have worked our birds at power Stations, landfill sites, hotels and town centres, housing estates and ??. The effect on the local bird pest population is often immediate, and long-term success can be ensured with regular flying of Hawks or Falcons.

We carefully select the species of Hawk or Falcon and fly at the particular avian pest present on the site. Our highly specialised knowledge of training Hawks and Falcons for 30 years makes Avian Bird Control services the only choice.

This method of utilising trained birds of prey is not only environmentally friendly but is appropriate in areas from well known tourist areas to waste depots.

Hawk Flying

Our experienced falconers and specially trained birds of prey deter nuisance birds from a range of sites including schools, hospitals, shopping centres, train stations and depots; aircraft hangars; warehouses and factories; landfill sites and transfer stations; government buildings and large public spaces.

This is a non-lethal deterrent programme, a natural and effective measure, where the aim is not to kill, but to deter. The public is supportive of our programmes and our clients benefit from positive public relations by dealing with the problems caused by nuisance birds in a humane and responsible way.

Using a live bird of prey works by altering the behaviour patterns of the target species. The presence of the hawk overpopulates the area with predators, which causes the nuisance birds to adopt a new pattern of behaviour - away from the target site. This can take a number of visits to achieve. However, once the target species pattern of behaviour has been altered, control can be maintained with a programme of routine follow-up visits.

We use our hawk and falcon flying services to deter a variety of species including gulls, pigeons, geese, rooks and crows, and ground nesting birds such as lapwings. Unlike other bird-scaring devices, the target species never becomes habituated to the presence of a live bird of prey.

We conduct a free of charge survey of your site looking at the problems caused by nuisance birds. Taking into account factors such as the availability of food and roosting or nesting sites, we will design a bird control strategy to suit your requirements, and achieve the absolute minimum of bird activity within your budget.

Our Falconers and Hawk Handlers

All our falconers have over 20 years experience handling and flying birds of prey. Our staff are well spoken, carry identification and are neatly presented ????. They are fully aware of legal aspects and sensitive to public opinion.

OUR BIRDS OF PREY

All of the hawks and falcons flown are domestically bred; company owned; never used for hunting; and specifically trained as working birds. They are deployed exclusively for nuisance bird control, and are accustomed to flying in urban and working environments. They are undisturbed by the presence of the public, machinery or vehicles, and concentrate fully on their work, looking only to their handler for direction and reward. The welfare of our birds of prey is of paramount importance to all of us at Avian Bird Control.

BIRD OF PREY WELFARE POLICY

All falconers are fully committed to providing a quality service to our clients whilst upholding the highest standards of integrity with regard to our working birds. As valued members of the team, their needs are always considered above those of the business.

TRANSPORTATION

When being transported, our birds of prey are secured in a travelling box designed specifically for this purpose. This ensures that they are transported safely.

Frequently Asked Questions

A. Every site and every problem is unique in the challenges presented. This is why we offer a free-of-charge site survey. We will then produce a detailed report, providing you with your options and our recommendations for solving the nuisance bird problem at your site. Our customers find that the programme represents value for money, saving them money on cleaning, making the site more pleasant and improving their public image

A. This varies from site to site, on the reasons that the nuisance birds are there, and on other factors such as the time of year. Repeated visits are necessary to maintain control of the site.

A. We select the type of bird of prey based on the site and the target species. For urban situations we typically fly Harris’ hawks, both male and female. For large, open areas we would probably fly falcons. On some sites we fly more than one species of bird to provide maximum impact on the target species.
